What Happens if i missed a Payment

When you’ve missed your rental payment, don’t panic — but it’s important to act quickly to get your account back in the green. At Sydney Realty Group, we understand that life can get busy and sometimes rent can slip through the cracks. Here’s what happens if you miss a payment and how we manage the process.

Rent Arrears Between 1–3 Days

If your account falls into arrears between one and three days, our automated system will send you an email reminder that rent is due. This is your best opportunity to catch up and keep your ledger looking healthy, so please don’t let these reminders end up in your junk folder.

Rent Arrears Between 4–7 Days

If your rent remains unpaid for four to seven days, your property manager will give you a quick call and send a text message to update you on your account status. Arrears over seven days can leave a negative impression on your ledger and may affect your chances of securing future rentals, so it’s important to act quickly at this stage.

Rent Arrears Between 8–14 Days

Once your account reaches eight to fourteen days in arrears, our management team will follow up with further calls to ensure you are aware of the situation. This is the last opportunity to get your account back on track before the matter is escalated.

Rent Arrears of 14+ Days

If your arrears reach fourteen days or more, a termination letter will be issued. This letter provides a final fourteen-day window to make full payment and clear the outstanding arrears. If full payment is made within this timeframe, the termination can be voided.

However, we always aim to resolve matters well before it reaches this stage — because rental references often include a question asking whether a termination notice was ever issued during the tenancy, and for what reason. So let us give you a great reference by not getting to the 14 day arrears mark.

If Something Urgent Comes Up

If an urgent situation arises and you know you won’t be able to make your rent payment on time, please let us know straight away. We will always do our best to work with tenants and landlords to find a fair solution for everyone involved.
