Fire Inspections

Fire Safety Inspections – What You Need to Know

Your safety — and the safety of your family — is our highest priority. That’s why a fire safety inspection is conducted on your property every year. For apartments, these inspections are organised primarily by your strata and building managers. If you live in a house, Sydney Realty Group will arrange the inspection on behalf of your landlord. Because this is a mandatory inspection, we ask for your cooperation in providing the inspectors with access to your property — so you have our thanks advance!

What to Expect During a Fire Safety Inspection

  • A time slot is generally assigned to each level of the building.
  • Inspectors will check your front door, smoke alarm, and sprinkler system.
  • The inspection usually takes 5 minutes or less per apartment (houses may take longer).
  • If you require a specific time slot, you can contact the fire inspection manager listed on the notice.

How You’ll Be Notified

  • When we receive a fire inspection notice, we will forward it to you directly.
  • In some cases, notices may be posted in your building — for example, in the elevator or on lobby noticeboards.
  • Please check your building’s announcements regularly so you don’t miss important updates from your building manager.

If You Miss the Fire Inspection

  • Be home during your allocated time or leave a key with your building’s concierge.
  • If you have to leave unexpectedly, most companies will arrange a second round if your property was inaccessible the first time.
  • Some companies may charge a call-back fee for a second visit — this fee would be payable by you.
  • To avoid delays, extra costs, or safety risks, we strongly recommend providing access during the first scheduled inspection.

Why Fire Safety Inspections Are Important

  • They ensure smoke alarms, sprinkler systems, and fire doors are working properly.
  • They help protect you, your family, and your property from fire hazards.
  • They are a legal requirement for most residential properties.

Quick Action Checklist for You

  1. Check your notice — confirm the date, time, and instructions.
  2. Plan access — be home or arrange key drop-off at the concierge.
  3. Clear access points — ensure your front door, smoke alarm, and sprinkler system are easy to inspect.
  4. Monitor building announcements — look out for notices in elevators, lobby boards, or emails.
  5. Provide access on the first visit — avoid delays, safety risks, and possible fees.
